Biodiversity challenges

Biodiversity & linear infrastructure

Although they occupy only a small space on the ground, transport infrastructures (road networks, railway networks, energy transport networks, etc.) affect all ecosystems through landscape modifications, the development of new sources of pollution, the introduction of invasive species or the creation of ecological barriers that contribute to the isolation of animal populations.

While the rights of way and the dependencies of these infrastructures represent, in France, a surface area greater than the seven national parks, environmental actors are now seeking to reduce their ecological impacts and to conceive of them as sources for the development of new ecological networks in territories that are often heavily anthropized.
